Coffee Label Description

City+ Roast a lighter body this year, with good bright notes, aromatic woodiness, cocoa and vanilla aspects, mild aftertaste

My notes

I've been down with the flu and couldn't taste anything, so I haven't been roasting. I'm interested in how the organic comes out.

This coffee didn't give off much chaff until 1st crack, then a small amount. Smells great. I'm start to keep 1st crack start and end times.

Coffee Label Description

At a Full City+ roast, bright cup with crisp roast flavors and fruited, winey backdrop.

My notes

I pushed this one further than the last and got what I will call "full city" out of it. Darker and the surface of the beans are smoother and a little shiny.

El Conquistador

Did a roast this evening in the garage of the Costa Rica...

Coffee Label Description

At a Full City+ roast, bright cup with crisp roast flavors and fruited, winey backdrop.

My notes

In the garage again. This bean put out a lot of chaff early on. First crack lasted about a minute. The beans seem plumper and fuller (due to expansion?)

The Kettle

I have banished the old drip coffee maker to the thrift store and have gotten a new electric kettle:

I'm using this and my Bodum french press to make coffee with spring water. Yum.

Papua-New Guinea - Kimel Plantation

Saying goodbye to the last of the Papua-New Guinea. Overall, I was more impressed with the Honduras than this coffee- while very good, it didn't have some of the brighter flavors that the Honduran coffee had.

My notes

Did this one inside the garage - ambient outdoor was 50. The roast was not very even.

I'm posting all of the first three in a single post-

At City to Full City, a bright lively cup with marmelade, tropical fruit, malt, medium body.

My notes

It was colder outside and there was more delay getting past 1st crack at 5 mins. I think I need to hotwire the thermostat or do it in the garage...

much more definite 1st crack. beans started surging up and down at around 7:00. Darker and more even than first roast.

Coffee Label Description

At Full City, sweet aromatics, brown sugar with mild berry and walnut flavors.

My notes

My first roast, it was too light but still yummy in the cup. The low bean load in the popper (85g) was not enough to build up the heat needed.
